about

Melon three out of three. The metaphorical home stretch. Welcome to Cantaloupe.
You'll notice this record is thematically a bit darker. Just a bit. Cantaloupe's tunes, unlike Watermelon or Honeydew, largely came out of the woodwork when I was in lockdown. The charm of freedom had worn off. Freedom itself had seemingly worn off. The warm glow of summer, which still taunted me every time I went for a walk and looked over the harbour from my hill, hadn't disappeared, but had definitely been overruled by the current circumstances.
A lot of tunes I had started but not finished made their way onto this album, as they didn't fit the first two melons, but perfectly slotted into this one. Some tunes, like the opener, dealt with the uncertainty we were faced. Some aspects dealt with pent-up energy and anxieties. Some tunes, like "Burdan's Gate," flashed back to where I was four months prior. A lot of the drones on this album, particularly towards the end, intended to be a blanket of sound, to wrap you up in a warm embrace, perhaps as a substitute for emotional warmth.
We all dealt with an uncertain, apprehensive time in our lives, though for me this marked the end of a transitional period, and Cantaloupe reflects this. The end of an era indeed.
