Watermelon was originally meant to be the only melon to be released, at least this year. Certainly I think it's the most authentic. All of the pieces here were written around the spring and summer of 2019/2020, and all were written and finalised in the beautiful Eastbourne, Wellington NZ, where I spent a lot of time through that summer working.
I was free then. I had just finished school, I had four months before any university or flatting responsibilities kicked in, I had a bunch of mates out Eastbourne ways, and I had a full license and age both on my side. Life was simpler in this limbo time of my life, where I didn't necessarily have to worry about the future. I wouldn't call Watermelon carefree, but it was certainly taken in an easier time of my life. A time before we became adults, but weren't children either.
Here's to the non-adults and non-children in us all.
